Fantastic (2009-02-06)
I bought this for my husband for Christmas, and I was worried, because the face is BIG. But it looks great, and he's hard on watches, but hasn't gotten a scratch on it yet. All of it's special features are great, he uses the compass a lot. He loves it, he tells me just about everyday.

Love this time piece (2009-01-31)
This is a good piece of work from Timex in terms of design and functions.
Time and Date setting adjustments are easy. The only thing that needs to be improved is the user manual. The instructions on the compass calibration is not clear to get a good calibration. Thus sometimes the compass shows a different heading. The user manual that come along with this watch seems like is a general manual and not model specific. Overall,this is an awesome watch.

I just wanted a Timex. (2008-08-24)
Funny story, I tried to find this watch at local retailers. At one point I walked into a very upscale Nasr Brothers Jewelers. The kind of place where you find Rolex, Breitling, Omega, TAG Heuer, Cartier, Moldova. The owner quickly comes up to me, and exuberantly says, "Hello boss! What can I do for you?". I said I was looking for a Timex, and he quite sympathetically replies,"I'm sorry, we don't carry Timex." True story.

After shopping around online, I found that Amazon had, by far, the best price.

Anyhow, about the watch. Overall I'm satisfied with this watch. First of all, it has kept perfect time. Six weeks ago, when it arrived in the mail, I set it to Universal Coordinated Time, and it has not lost one second. Also, when you press the crown to activate the INDIGLO, the backlight remains illuminated for 4 seconds after release. Another pro that I've noticed is that the phosphorescent hands are very bright and remain so for quite a long time.

The compass is a little odd. It does not appear to be super accurate, but I suppose if you were lost in the woods it's close enough to steer you in the right direction. The rotating bezel is cool, but rather useless. And the two function buttons both activate the compass. I mean, you've got two buttons, two features would've been nice. Perhaps a stop watch or something. The instructions on how to calibrate the compass were clear enough, I thought. It asks you to set the watch of a flat surface, press the button to start the calibration, and then slowly rotate the watch too full revolutions in one direction, taking at least 15 seconds per revolution. That's all fine and dandy, but I find it's easier to simply hold to watch level on your wrist and spin yourself around a couple of times. I mean, as long as there's no one watching.

These little things aside, I like this watch. It's big, and it looks cool. I like the deep blue color of the face, and the shiny chrome around the numbers. Size was the main thing. I'm a student pilot, and pilots need big watches. You can't have a tiny little watch that just tells time. It needs to be like a wall clock that you wear on your wrist.

Not bad for the $78.70 I paid for it. But as soon as I'm looking to pay at the very least $300 for a watch, I'm going back to Nasr Brothers.

Handsome and heavy but crown came off (!) (2009-05-04)
I have this watch in a different color. It is a handsome watch with some heft to it, which I didn't mind. I don't know what the outer bezel is for ... it turns smoothly both ways, and goes up to 24, but I can't see how it has anything to do with military time.

I wore mine for a while, and was happy with it, until the crown came off one day. It is probably partly my fault, as the last three watches I have had have had problems with the crowns -- although usually they just get pulled up and stop the watch and I lose time. This one it just came up missing one day. Too bad.

If you don't go around destroying watches, and you like a heavy watch with a big easy-to-read dial, you might like this one. Also the crystal seems to hold up nicely.

Inexpensive Perpetual Calendar Fairly Accurate Quartz Watch (2009-12-03)
This is an inexpensive perpetual calendar watch which works well. It fits my eight inch wrists (stainless steel bracelet made in China) and the movement is made in Cebu, Philippines. The case is brass; but there is a stainless steel backing which touches one's skin (wrist.) It is easy to set the time and the watch keeps good time. The back lit illumination system works great at night or day. The date is a little small; but with glasses on I can read it. The face is large and easy to read. It has a conventional glass lens. It is a little tight on my wrist; not uncomfortable yet I might look for another band or link. I currently use it as a night clock by the bed at night; since it lights up well at night.

no more adjusting the date (2008-08-04)
I always want to get the perpetual date since I have quite a few watch and I never remember to change the date for the months with 30/29/28 days instead of 31 and I always end up with a wrong date.
7 years battery with FREE replacement, water proof (tested - I wear it while swimming).
The metal band is too easy to scratch, I got scratched all over from gentle use just hitting/rubbing my table while I'm typing, but no biggie.

Fair Design, but Defective Item (2010-01-08)
This watch had all the features I want: digital/analog, luminous face plus back-lighting when needed, stopwatch/alarm/timer. I had a similar Timex watch for a few years, but it died recently. This new watch was quite a bit bulkier than the old one, even though it offered no extra functions that I needed. The leather band looked nice a felt nice once on my wrist, but its thickness made it tough to get on & off. Perhaps it would loosen up over time.

Unfortunately, the watch had a defect. I noticed it the first night, but I thought maybe I was going crazy. I heard random beeps a few times that evening, but the watch seemed fine. Then it happened again the next day. When I sequenced to the countdown timer, the "hour" setting was incrementing steadily even though I was not pushing the button. Apparently the button did not have enough clearance and was partially "pushed" as it sat there.

I ordered a different model as a replacement, not wanting to take a chance on this one and not really liking the bulk.

Great Timex (2009-11-24)
I have been wearing this watch for work, backpacking, and daily for a year. It is great because it has indiglo, an alarm, digital and analog readings, a second hand and a fairly large face. I expect the band to wear out before the mechanics, but so far so good even in damp conditions. I keep it on or in my sleeping bag when it's really cold to help save the battery. The best watch I could find in this price range for me.

this watch keeps time fine. but you cannot read the time at night without a lot of twisting and turning despite the iniglow. The hands are almost invisible aqinst the lighted black surface and the reflective crystal. they should be illuminated or at least have reflectors on them. also, and this may be my fault, the metal band came undone after a few months of my wearing it. the watch is truly water and shock resistant. i like the day and date function.

Great watch for the money! (2009-01-31)
This watch fit my needs perfectly. It's got a classic look, battery powered, lights up when needed, stainless, and it's heavy.

The perpetual calendar was a plus. This is the 1st watch I've owned in 15 years. I'm not much of a watch person and I've had the watch now for just under a month and I love it.

Everyone should have a Timex! (2009-01-06)
I'm kinda biased because I think every American should have a venerable American watch in his/her wardrobe like Timex or Hamilton. Well, this is my first one.

The things I like about it: It's a very solid watch, nice and heavy and it has a big dial. I like the fact that it's has a perpetual calendar so I don't have to adjust it every month or so; but I'm not sure how that works. The movement also seems very crisp. I also like the indiglo function, very cool, especially for an analog.

The things that I don't like about it: The watch band is very stiff and unyielding. The watch face is not as black as it looks in all the pictures I've seen of it. I wish that they made it of a non-reflective material. I have to agree with the other poster about the watch hands, they are metallic silver and if you hold it in a certain position so that light doesn't bounce off it, it blends into the watch face and is hard to see.

Overall, I like it because it's a bold and good looking design by Timex. It's a very classic look if you like it and not only that, if you get a leather strap I'm sure that you can wear it without embarrassment to black tie functions. But most of all, my recommendation is that watches are part jewelry and part timepiece, you absolutely must try it on in person because you can't really decide if you like it or not on-line. Ironically, I did not, but Amazon's offering it with such a good deal (32% off), and I'm getting the 20% off from Timex that I just had to get it.

Timex True (2008-03-29)

This Timex was everything it was advertised to be.
I am not wearing it because it isn't a good enough
time piece but because in my opinion it didn't look right
on my wrist. With a seven year battery, though, it makes
a good spare.

Timex does it again (2006-07-13)
I bought this watch as a gift for my husband. It is very stylish, but also practical for a working man. The face is easy to read and the Indiglo light stays on for a few seconds after he pushes the button. My only complaint is that it arrived without the instructions and it clearly stated not to reset the time without reading them! We reset it anyway, and the watch is working fine. All in all, another good choice from Timex, and the new perpetual calendar feature is very handy.

Inexpensive Perpetual Calendar Fairly Accurate Quartz Watch (2009-12-03)
I was surprised that I like wearing this watch. The Stainless steel band fits comfortably. My wrists are 8 inches around at the smallest area.

I like the way the watch face can be illuminated with the touch of the time adjustment screw. It lights up the face from behind the face which works better for telling time in the dark than my Tissot or Seiko; both of which require recent strong light flashes to charge the illumination material.

The watch is easy to read with the big numbers. I would have liked a larger case and dial.

I think the T-series might have a larger face. I found replacement bracelets are about $10. The case is made of brass with a stainless steel backing against ones skin. The crystal lens is glass. It is water resistant to 50 meters.

I don't know how old my battery is or the watch is. I read others had the bracelet break with in two years of daily use; but the watch continued to work fine after that. There is a free battery replacement program with Timex at [...] (one needs to send a check for return shipping costs.)

The watch has a Philippines (Cebu) movement. The stainless steel bracelet is made in China.

This watch loses a little less than a second a day; so it is not as accurate as my Tissot, Seiko, Charles Hubert Paris Pocket Watch, Geneva Pocket Watch. It lost about three seconds in four days. It could be that it has an old battery. For basic time keeping it will work. It is pretty inexpensive.

So far so good (2008-10-17)
One of the main reasons I bought this watch is its perpetual calendar. It bothers me that many of my other watches need manual adjusting every other month. I also like the watch's timeless design. For this price, an amazing deal.

Nearly Perfect - But a little too big, a little too thick. (2008-09-26)
Executive Summary: This watch is almost perfect. VERY easy to read in sunlight or in concert hall. But a BIT too big at 41cm and a bit thick. Overall a little too big to be even slightly "subtle". 85-90% scale of this model in all directions would be perfect for me. As it is, back it goes.

The inside skinny: I'm not a watch collector. I have a primary watch for years and I work underneath cars and on the lawn, but also wear a tux and sing with the Symphony a lot, so any watch for me must be durable as well as nice looking. Bling bling seems to be the thing for many watch wearers younger than me, and more power to them. But I need something a little more elegant, but also robust, but without alarms that might go off during performances.

My choice is either this watch, or the Citizen solar powered Eco-drive watches. I bought this watch and an ultra thin "Stilleto" Eco-drive, figuring on returning one. See Citizen Model # BM8242-08E .

The Citizen is very difficult to read in the dark as I walk down the dock where we live, but is nearly perfecty elegant. The Timex is nearly perfect in that the readability is unbeatable as well as the Day and Date being also readable. But it's just too darn big.

I think they're both going back.

I went to Target to look at the "real" sizes of Timexes as it is a little difficult to get a true idea of the final size from the info on Amazon. Some listings have full size specs, others do not. Makes it hard to completely compare.
If I get time, I will try to upload a picture to go with this review to illustrate my point about size of the Timex.

I love the size of the Easy Reader series, but since I don't use velcroe strap Easy-shoes, [yet], most are a bit too far in the direction away from subtlety for my current taste. But they are closer to the right size.
See Timex Mdl # T20011 . I find the two-tone visually a little geeky.
(Darn "Insert a product Link" button doesn't seem to find anything. Duh.)

Ill come back and report as I figure things out.

"Keeps on ticking!" (2008-07-15)
Set it and forget it! Replace the battery in seven years. Calendar works for all months and leap years without resetting the calendar. Plus easy to read with cream colored dial and large black numbers.
